Joan Miquel - Integral Coach

In these challenging times, we often are in the situation to stop and think, before reacting immediately. It is something that should be learned and developed as a skill. But at the same time, many of us in difficult situations, ask for help. Life coaches have always been in the center of attention, mostly because people think of them as “self-confidence builders”.

Are they these builders, or are they much more than that, we will find out from Joan Miquel,

life coach and member of Notrino Collective.

Know yourself, Change your life

“Things just happen at the right time”, says Joan when we asked him what motivated him to join Notrino collective. “It just appeared. I wasn’t looking for it. That is the way things happen. Sometimes, we are looking for situations, people, conditions, etc. because we believe that, looking for them, we will make them appear.

And I deeply feel things don’t work that way.”

As a Life coach, one has to have certain skills to be able to help others in personal development and building self-confidence. Many years before Joan became a life coach, he was involved in the advertisement business.

Once he was done with the corporative world, he took a short break to explore other options. From that moment on he focused his strengths on becoming a life coach. And still today, after years of experience he is not clear what life coach really means.

“ I see it as a label, something that perhaps contributes to people being able to get a slight idea about a “Joan Miquel human being in his professional aspect” who is only having an experience called life. At the time I had motivations to start preparing myself for it. Now, even though I recognize those motivations, I find it difficult to get identified with them. At this moment, I am open to experience myself and to know myself (myself always referred as “Joan Miquel human being”) in my experience through others. That is what I do all the time. I’m not very fond of labels today, but if I had to wear one, I’d rather talk about a term that came up the other day in a conversation with some friends: the image of the De-Coach, professionally practicing something close to his own de-construction through something that we could label as De-Coaching since it helps us to unbuild ourselves, to “know ourselves” to unlearn ourselves.”

Conocerte a ti mismo, Cambia tu vida

In this era of communication, we learn something new every day. That is essential especially when you are in a competitive business. But, sometimes we are our own best teachers.

“I learn from myself all the time. I learn myself in order to de-construct myself. All the people I interact with, both on a professional or personal level, are great teachers to me. Through my relationship with them, I am seeing myself all the time and recognizing myself in that relationship that I experience and in everything that I feel based on that relationship. We are seeing ourselves all the time in everything we think is “out there,” whatever it is we think is “out there.” When you are aware that there is no “out there” “out there”, you realize that you are only perceiving the thing you understand as a reality in a certain way. Through that perception, you experience yourself. But you experience yourself, regardless of how what we understand as “out there” is being.

In fact, essentially, we are all the same, the same thing. And I don’t know if I am talking about the concept of unity that has become so fashionable for a while now, the famous “we are all one” that has served as a slogan for so many things. I feel that there are no differences in us, from a perspective of the essential. We perceive differences from our identification with the concept of “I am”, from believing we are special and different. We are not what we think we are. That is the most essential thing that we can experience. That is why I speak of de-constructing what we believe we are to open space so that what we are can consciously manifest itself through us”.

2020 has been challenging and still is. As humanity, we have to change and adjust. The question is, what we have to adjust. The most common word was “NEW NORMAL”.

Related to that, Joan says “I am not quite sure that there is a “new normal”. I’m not even quite sure there is a “normal”. A question we can ask to ourselves is, for example, what do we understand as “normal”?

I do not know if it is possible that we can speak of a “normal” when that “normal” is so different for each one of us. I find it much more interesting to observe that particular concept that each one has of what is “normal” in order to de-construct it and realize that this “normal” is just a misconception that generates a lot of confusion,

among many other things.

When you undo your concept of what is “normal,” you realize that talking about a “new normal” may be a nonsense thing.
